Mowgli learns to read.

Last May was when we realised Mowgli already knew his ABCs. His ambitious Patti taught him to read his first word from his then favourite book. B-O-Y-S. "Boys" he would proudly finish. It was then that he grasped that alphabets can be pieced together to make a written word. Last month I noticed that he was under the impression he could read. He would take a book and flip through the pages and say "Look amma, I am reading myself" :). He would also sometimes spell out the letters in words that were printed big and bold in public spaces. Soon enough he realised that those words that were printed must stand for something. So he started reading. Here are a few examples :)
S-T-O-P = Stop Sign
B-U-S = Bus
S-C-H-O-O-L = School Bus
4-6-7-3 = House ( these are numbers printed outside our house. Well if one can read alphabets, surely numbers are the same)
I-5-F-W-Y = Street ( sign at the entrance of I-5 Freeway )
This one is our favourite. We gave Sa a shirt that said  "Big Sis " on it to celebrate her new found status as one. She starts to spell it out and read it. She is a year and half older than him and can read now. Mowgli stops her and says "Ill tell you how to read." He goes on to spell it out and says " B-I-G S-I-S", pauses for a moment to think what it could be and announces triumphantly " Shirt !!, It says Shirt".

Yes, our monkey can now read :) !!

Forever and Forever

Mowgli is still  fast asleep. I got home really late and he was asleep by then. I do not want to leave without kissing him and saying Good Morning. As I moon over my sleeping baby, he slowly opens his eyes. On seeing me he smiles and grabs my hand and buries his face in it. I kiss him and say "Good Morning!". "Where is Appa ?" He asks. "Appa has gone to office". "Where is Appi ?" he asks. "Downstairs." I say. "Ms Lupe?". "She is not here yet !". I smile. He says " I want Appi and Ms Lupe go to office with Appa. Amma and I stay at home. Forever and Forever. The end. "
