Popcorn Masala

I saw this movie last night after getting not so great reviews about it. I went in expecting to get bored out my mind in no time, cursing SRK and regretting having paid 10 bucks for it and worse. But guess what, I was pleasantly surprised. It isn't half as bad as people made it out to be.

Its entertaining, extremely funny in parts, calls on every cliche that exists in Bollywood, has actors who laugh at themselves, SRK plays his hamming self and it works. Without a coherent story line, it works. And the best part, it doesn't take itself seriously. Its OTT all the way. And some of the gags, boy are they clever!!

It does have its lows. The music is so-so. I want to slap SRK every-time he says "Oh Fish !!!". It is also the most self indulgent piece of Annual day type skit that is being passed off for a movie.

The thing is there is this guy. No, not just another guy, but a larger than life superstar who decides to make a super extravagant excuse for cinema, with all his star friends throwing in an appearance, shaking a leg or two and he plays none other than his own hamming self. Who, but SRK could pull that off? And credit to Farah Khan for making the run of the mill popcorn Masaledaar.

I love that as the credits roll, not just the stars, but every single person who contributed to this MTV spoof like 2.5 hour extravaganza ( all the way down to the spot boys) walk down the red carpet with introductions and a remix (!!!) version of Dard-e-Disco playing.

Its mindless, logicless, entertaining movie. In Technicolour at that!! :)

  • I really liked the film. Dard-E-Disco is a cool track but SRK looks a bit odd with all those pecs peeking out... a nice entertainer.
