Welcome 2006
Another year. Another year to make and break resolutions. This time I am going to post it here for all and sundry to see and hold me to my word.
Certify to be a step aerobics instructor
Now if you are done laughing, I would like to say that its very rude to laugh at someone's dreams. Not just rude but foolish. For those who are wondering how the hell I am going to do this, I have just three words "Wait and Watch". As for me I shall "Watch my Weight" and prove all you cynics out there wrong.
Step aerobics has always been my favourite form of workout. I started when I first came to Oregon State. I was terrible at it. Zero coordination and stamina levels going in the negatives. But one thing that absolutely struck a chord with me about this form of exercise was the music. The instructor was very fond of dancing and she would always play techno. It was bizarre but super addictive.
Since then I have graduated into being able to pick up moves at a fair pace and even jazz it up a bit with some dance like hand movements without missing a beat. Step aerobics has so much room for improvisation that there is no monotony involved in it, unlike running on the tread mill, which seriously must qualify as the most boring form of workout ever. You run for 35 minutes and go nowhere. You can pick the intensity you like and stick to it. The beats are easy to catch and depending on the music you pick you can very easily choreograph cha-cha-mambo, salsa, garba and your favourite bollywood moves into it.
One misconception people have is you have the "Hot-Bod" to teach. Why? None of my favourite instructors have been super skinny. The one who has been has been terrible. Stamina and fitness level have nothing really to do with a 36-26-36 figure. Yes, everyone wants to look good. Everyone wants to be in shape. But one must not confuse beauty and fitness. It is essential to be fit to live a healthy and happy life. Its not essential to be beautiful by the standards set by Vogue magazine.
So this is a good time to make a resolution, to be fit. To house your soaring spirits in a healthy body ruled by a healthy mind. Here is to a fit and fighting 2006. Cheers !

Let me be honest. I did not laugh, but in a very superficial way, I was amused with the idea. But having read the whole piece, I can only wish you the best of luck :)
If you stand by your dreams, even the worst of critiques will admire you. One has to earn respect for things one loves...right?
Happy New Year!
