....and all that jazZ

My simulations are taking a really long time. So decided to put down some things that I have been on my mind.

1. Was watching Filmfare awards. Noticed quite a few things apart from very bad set design and extremely poor organisation. Can someone tell me why we as Indians are so obsessed with English ? At the cost of speaking really bad english, we still speak english. I feel that more, now that I live abroad and see people from different races and cultures go by with great pride for their own tongue. Ramesh Sippy of Sholay fame actually said " I feel very overwhelmed and humiliated." I can only hope the word he was looking for was "humbled" not "humiliated". Just speak in the language you are most comfortable in and be done. The fact is we still look down upon people who can't speak English in India. How wrong is that !

2. Some books and some movies have to be read and seen at a certain age only. Once you have passed that stage they no longer are as fascinating or sometimes you are just too early and they just dont make enough sense. I didn't like Hitchhiker's Guide to the galaxy when i tried reading it. I didnt like Catch 22. I think was too late for the former and too early for the latter. But i don't think I will try again anyways.

3. A book I am really looking forward to is Harry Potter and the Half Blood prince. I cant wait for her to finish writing the whole series. Its killing me that she is taking so much time. That she has become so money minded. Prisoner of Azkaban remains the best of the series so far. The last one was too long and she is not a great writer she just has an amazing plot with a bunch of great kids who can't wait to grow up :-). A movie I am waiting to watch is Star Wars- Episode 3 - Revenge of the Sith. Which will close the story. Supposed to be really dark and really good. Well but thats what they said about Attack of the Clones as well and it was so lame. Except for the part where Yoda fights :-). It was a love story. But you know no story is really complete without that angle I guess. Annikan Skywalker will become Darth Vader in this coming episode, lured by the dark side of the Force. I love such stories.

4. This weeks Top songs to check out in no particular order
Lonely no more - Rob Thomas
Collide - Howie D
Give a little bit - Goo Goo Dolls
Behind those Eyes - 3 Doors down
Boulevard of broken Dreams - Green Day

5. I am not a sucker for mush. But these books I have thoroughly enjoyed when I read them.
The Hidden flower - Pearl Buck ( I could not believe when it ended. I thought I had only half the book.)
Love in the Time of Cholera - Garcia Marquez . ( I hate the protagonist and read the last part in great frustration coz it clashed so hard with my sensibilities)
Gone with the Wind - Margaret Mitchell ( I love Scarlett O Hara)
An Equal Music - Vikram Seth ( Sheer poetry )
Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen ( How can one not love Mr Darcy ? )
And then there are a lot of books that I don't consider love stories but journeys of people through life.. for what journey of life is complete without Love. Will save that list for another day.

  • 1. Long since I stopped watching filmfare awards. But the point about looking down upon people for English speaking is absolutely right.

    2. H2G2 - I agree. Catch-22 is one of the very very very rare humorous books that one can love :)

    3. Harry Potter/ Star Wars - can't stand them to save my life. I despise them to the core..different taste you may say :p

    4. Never in my life, I can listen to any of the songs that you've mentioned :)

    5. Books -- Haven't read the first two, probably never will. GWTW -- I dont like at all. Scarlet, I hate her. An Equal Music - can try going by your recommendation :)
P & P - For me, its better not to read than reading Jane Austin.

I am looking forward to the rest of the books :)

  • Bhaskar : I wouldnt advise unless you really have nothing better to do in life. But The things that people say.. all the goof ups are incredible. The oscars Bloopers video might be a classier affair.

  • Akshaya : have you read any Jane Austen at all ? Anyways only women seem to enjoy it so i don't blame you. Same case with harry Potter.
The songs.. They are not the greatest but its whats playing all day on radio these days and I like them.
About Equal music. It can be very boring the first 50 80 pages. Seth is a verbose writer but something about the story I just loved. I cant quite put my finger on the emotion.
You hate Scarlett ?? :) My mom hates her too. I am guessing the reasons you hate her are very similar to the reason I love her. She is a bitch you might say and I love her for precisely that. :-)

  • I must appreciate you Ms Ragini for you understood me almost completely :)

As for Scarlett, you got it absolutely right. As an author's character, I love her as well for she has been developed very nicely. But yes, she's a bitch and I hate her :)
