Not Again

Some one is playing the prank. The Fire alarm went off thrice last night. And in a span of an hour. Aviva and i were watching "Adaptation". I dozed off. And the alarm went off. It was like it was on a trip of its own. The third time around we walked out. We met our new neighbours. Couple of cute guys. Aviva and I always see a few surfer-looking guys when ever we pass by, hanging around on the patio or something. They keep all the doors and windows open most of the times. One of the cute guys offered to some put some duct tape on the alarm in our rooms. It works. It kinda muffles the sound and its not as offensive. I sat waiting for it to go off again. I had lost all sleep by then and it was only midnight. So I started to watch Adaptation from where I left off. Crazy business. Was reading some of my favourite poetry last night. Here is one :

DEFAMATION

WHY are those tears in your eyes, my child?
How horrid of them to be always scolding you for nothing?
You have stained your fingers and face with ink while writing--is that why they call you dirty?
O, fie! Would they dare to call the full moon dirty because it has smudged its face with ink?

For every little trifle they blame you, my child. They are ready to find fault for nothing.
You tore your clothes while playing--is that why they call you untidy?

O, fie! What would they call an autumn morning that smiles through its ragged clouds?
Take no heed of what they say to you, my child.
Take no heed of what they say to you, my child.

They make a long list of your misdeeds. Everybody knows how you love sweet things--is that why they call you greedy?
O, fie! What then would they call us who love you?

--Rabindranath Tagore

Isnt it beautiful :) !!!!

  • Nice poem! About your fire alarm, can't you just take the batteries off when it goes off?

  • Well, if the alarm in our house was going off we would have done that. But our apt complex has this centralised alarm with speaker kinda things in every room in every house, in case of a big fire in the building elsewhere. That was the one that was going off.
